12/7/2022, marks the third National Championship brought home by the Gogebic Community College Esports team.
This Fall season we had 3 teams make the playoffs.
Samsons' Rainbow 6 Siege team competed last night against Hawkeye Community College (HCC) Redtails and came away with a 3-1 victory in the best of 5 Finals match. GCC and HCC have a long-standing rivalry given that two other championships were stolen away by HCC in the past. The tension in the room was tangible going into the 4th round as both teams were giving 110% to take home the win. In an exciting finish, each team had 1 player remaining with 10 seconds on the clock when GCC's Team Captain, Jakob Wiemeri, stole the show taking down HCC's Wagonz (player name) to clutch the win.
The Samsons' Call of Duty: Vanguard team stepped into the Invitational League this season which promotes the best of the best in the NJCAAE. They worked hard all season and closed out playoffs with a loss at the Semifinals against USC Sumter's Fire Ants. An outstanding season ending with an overall 6-3 record playing against some massive programs. The team had a large obstacle to overcome after losing a player just before the playoffs and needing to quickly add a substitute to the team. A huge commendation goes out to the team for pushing forward and playing their best despite this set back.
